The Australian International Airshow 2007 is one of the world's great aviation events.
For several days over Avalon in Victoria, the skies come alive with some of the greatest aerial displays on the planet. From WW2 warbirds to the latest combat jets, from the gravity-defying aerobatics of the world’s most extreme pilots to the more gentle displays by historic and commercial aircraft, the show offers something for every enthusiast.
This DVD highlights displays by aerobatics pilots Pip Borrman in his Edge 540, Jim LeRoy in his Bulldog Pitts, as well as dazzling solo displays by Australia’s front line military aircraft, the F/A-18 Hornet and the mighty F-111.
It includes a feature on the RAAF’s latest acquisition – the giant C-17 Globemaster transport – a rare tour of the RAF’s E-3 Sentry AWACS 707, it goes fl ying with the men who keep the historic Super Constellation and Catalina aircraft airborne and it gets up close and personal with the star of the show – the F/A-18Super Hornet and its test pilot Ricardo Traven, who puts on a mind-boggling display in the aircraft that will soon enter service with the RAAF.
The theme of Airshow 2007 is ‘Breaking the Barriers’ to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the breaking of the sound barrier. This DVD includes a rare audience with General Chuck Yeager, the famed fi ghter ace who piloted the Bell X-1 rocket plane through the speed of sound in 1947.
