This Screen Australia cinematic gem examines the last days of the Sandringham flying boat service which ran from Sydney to Lord Howe Island until 1974. The film also pays tribute to the golden era and romance of the flying boats from World War 2 and the 1950s and uses historic footage to trace their importance in war, transportation and the tourist industry. It recalls the days when flying boats connected London to Sydney “in just seven days”, as well as other services between Australian cities, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. This DVD is a compelling reminder of how great this ear was and remembers historical figures such as P.G. ‘Bill’ Taylor and other legendary airmen who took to the skies in the ships that flew. |
