Classic Australian Touring Car Races Vol 2
Running time: 74 minutes
Rating: E
RRP: A$35.00 DVD only
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it was like to go inside the Ford, Holden and Chrysler factory
touring car teams of the early 1970s, then this special presentation will enthrall muscle car fans
of all ages. It features original TV stories from the widely acclaimed ‘4 Corners’ current affairs
program, which have been not been seen since they were first broadcast in black and white more
than three decades ago.
Travel back in time to a race meeting at Sydney’s Oran Park Raceway in September 1970, as the
works teams prepare for the big Bathurst 500 race. See Leo Geoghegan’s Pacer break a wheel in a
fierce battle with the new HDT Torana GTR XU-1, go inside some of the top secret workshops as the
cars are being race prepared, and listen to fascinating interviews with the various competition
directors including Harry Firth, Al Turner and John Ellis.
There’s also a special ABC report from 1971, which investigates the growing professionalism of
Australian touring car racing and the commercial problems confronting the sport at the time. The
vision is built around the Australian Touring Car Championship meeting at Melbourne’s Sandown
Park. There’s not only more great race footage here, but also interviews with Allan Moffat, Bob Jane,
Mike Gore and others.
There’s also more thrilling 1960s Series Production racing action from Sydney’s Warwick Farm
Raceway, with Monaro GTSs and Falcon GTs mixing it with Mini Coopers in a classic ‘David vs
Goliath’ battle on a very wet race day. We’re sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy this classic compilation.
